Obituary:William (Willie) Doig

William (Willie) Doig died on 11th April 2019 age 90.
He was known to most of the members as Bill and was the longest serving active Honorary Member of the Scottish Photographic Circle having been accepted for membership in 1976.
He was a former member of Queens Park Camera Club and had been an executive member of the Scottish Photographic Federation.
Bill spent most of his working life with the Evening Times and latterly with the Glasgow Herald where he was in charge of their photographic archives.
In his earlier years Bill was well known on the club judging circuit and had a passion for producing top quality traditional monochrome prints at which he excelled, a skill which gained him his EFIAP award.
Bill was passionate about the Circle and seldom missed a meeting. He was even present at this year's AGM only a few days before he passed away.
Despite his failing health in recent years he never missed submitting his work to Circle exhibitions.
While most of his photographic life was spent pursuing traditional photography he did in his later years make the transition to digital but he confessed that he was never really comfortable with it.
He was a fine gentleman with a good sense of humour who enjoyed the camaraderie of the Circle and was comfortable and helpful conversing with newcomers as well as established members.
He will be sadly missed by everyone who knew him.
